Classroom Backpacking 101 at Midwest Mountaineering

In order to maintain social distancing, we are limiting the size of the classes to 15. We will be hosting this event indoors in the Midwest Mountaineering Expedition Room or, weather permitting, outside in the Midwest Mountaineering’s boat yard. Face coverings will be required, per Midwest Mountaineering policy.

Learn the basic skills for your first backpacking trip before hitting the trail.  During this hands-on, classroom instruction, you will learn skills such as how to:

  • Pack a backpack

  • Set up a tent

  • Use a backcountry stove and water filter

  • Use a gear list (and double-check it)

    • A gear list will be provided

  • Choose the right sleeping bag

  • Determine essential gear

This lecture is very helpful prior to any 1st-time backpacking trip and is taught by Backpack The Trails LLC.  Midwest Mountaineering has generously agreed to provide space for this event.
